Red-Bellied Woodpeckers will store acorns and berries for the winter in crevices of trees. They return to the same tree to nest in each year.
Red-Bellied Woodpeckers are named for their rosy-red belly patch, even though the red head is the most distinguishing characteristic. These birds can be found in southern Canada and northeastern United States. These noisy birds have many varied calls and often "drum" to attract mates by tapping on aluminum roofs, gutters, hollow trees, etc.
