The Great Blue Heron often barks like a dog when startled and is often seen stalking small fish in shallow waters. They will also catch mice, squirrels or any other small animal that crosses it's path.
The Great Blue Heron is found throughout most of North America and parts of South America. They reside in areas of fresh water, salt water, swamps, lakes or even mangrove swamps. These herons build stick nests and will raise one brood per year. Both parents partake in caring for the young.
