The Carolina Chickadee is a small songbird with a black cap and bib and white sides on the face. They get their name from the "chick-a-dee-dee-dee" call they give. These chickadees can be found in the United States from New Jersey west to southern Kansas and south to Florida and Texas. Carolina Chickadees have the ability to lower their body temperature during extreme cold weather. During this time they arae awake, but unresponsive and should not be handled if found as the stress could cause death. Alternatively, Chickadees are very friendly birds that can be tamed and hand fed.
