The American Goldfinch (often called Wild Canary) is mostly found in open fields and woodlands. This bird will readily accept food from feeders but especially enjoys Nyjer thistle. Nesting occurs in late summer. Nests are often built by using silky down from wild thistle. The American Goldfinch flies only as far south that is needed in order to find an acceptable food source.
